Yesterday was the last day of the tournament, and it was a big day. I left the house at 5:00 am and I didn't get home till 12:30 am! I took Sophie and Isaiah with me (Andrew stayed overnight at a friends house since it was and 1 1/2 hours away and I didn't go on Friday). Sophie did great and Isaiah had fun being a timer during the rounds.

Andrew qualified for regionals in 3 of his speeches, and in debate. He came in 1st place in original 0ritory, 1st in Open Interpretation, and 5th place in duo. His nose looks all red because unfortunately, he got a bad cold on the second day, but he still did awesome!

At the tournaments that Andrew is involved in, the competitors enter a room in which 3 judges are seated. They each give their speech or one person skit (except in duo). With the exception of an expository, they are not allowed to use props, sets, or costumes. The judges rank them based on many factors, such as content, vocal delivery, physical delivery, and others. The speeches should be about 10 minutes long.

The different speech categories are: original oratory, persuasive, expository, humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation, open interpretation, duo interpretation, impromptu, apologetics, and extemporaneous. For more information about speech events or about debate go to www.ncfca.org and click on the speech and debate tabs on the sidebar.
