Leaf Craft
On Sunday afternoons, the older boys go to youth group, so I like to do something special with the younger kids. Since it was such a gorgous fall day today, Christian, Sophie and I hunted for some nice leaves to press. We read the book"Why do leaves Change Color?". In the back of the book it has ideas for leaf crafts.

Tturkey Thanksgiving Craft

Sophie loves to do crafts, and asks to do them often. Christian usually has to be talked into it, but once he starts he enjoys it. I've done this particular craft before with when the other children were young. You trace the child's feet on brown construction paper for the body of the turkey, then trace their hands 6 times with red, yellow and orange paper for the feathers. You can use googly eyes if you have them, I used small white fuzzy balls and black marker for the eyes. Cut out a red circle for the wattle, and an orange triangle for the beak. Then cut out legs and glue them to the back of the turkey.

Fall Crafts

Today we made some fall crafts. First we took a nature walk and collected leaves.
The first project we did was place leaves between 2 pieces of wax paper. Then I put a cloth over the wax paper and I ironed over the cloth with the warm iron. Next the kids cut out the leaves and put them up on the windows.
For the second project the kids made leaf rubbings. They put leaves between 2 pieces of white paper . Then they peeled the paper off from crayons and rubbed over the white paper.

Kool-aid playdough recipe
Here is a great homemade playdough recipe that I have been using for years. It's a great activity for your pre-school age children to do while your schooling the older kids. I like the fact that it's safe if they happen to eat some. And it smells great!
Kool-aid playdough
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 pack koolaid (any color you like)
3 Tbsp oil
1 cup boiling water
Directions:
Mix first three ingredients in a large bowl. Add the last 2. Stir until well blended. Remove from bowl and knead into soft dough. Store in air-tight containers.
